The Department of Art offers its students internally funded awards, prizes, scholarships, and fellowships.  Many of the awards allow students to travel both domestically and internationally to significant sites that support and encourage artistic research and production.

The department offers two traveling fellowships each academic year: The Mary Ellen Hale Lovett Traveling Fellowship and The Frank and Eleanor Freed Foundation Traveling Fellowship.  These undergraduate fellowships are chosen by way of competitive project/travel proposal and portfolio review.  The fellowship funds domestic or international travel to significant art sites, museums, exhibitions, study programs, etc.  Financial awards vary by project and are determined by research merit, destination, and budget.

In addition to the traveling fellowships, the department offers merit-based awards that are given each academic year just before commencement.  Students are nominated by Visual and Dramatic Arts faculty.  Nominations are then reviewed before the full department faculty for final vote and selection.  Awards are based solely on artistic achievement covering the student's undergraduate career.

Beyond this, the university offers many academic scholarships and fellowships that are open to all Rice students.  We encourage all students to contact the Office of Financial Aid for further information and application.
