Studio Art Concentration

Studio Art Concentration

Visual and Dramatic Arts majors with a concentration in Studio Art take courses in printmaking, drawing, painting, sculpture, critical studies and art history as a foundation, and courses in photography, film and/or theater as electives.  Courses address the visual arts in both technical and theoretical terms, establishing a broad and solid framework on which to build an individual practice.

In the spring of their junior year, students travel as a group to a city with a significant reputation in the arts. The trip is designed to be formative both intellectually and personally, and to better acquaint majors with each other and their faculty.

Advanced courses provide more opportunities for interdisciplinary experimentation and self-directed study, culminating in Senior Studio.  An immersive two-semester studio experience, Senior Studio is the capstone class of the Studio Art concentration.  The class ends with a final senior exhibition in which students present an independent body of work, a personal summation of their development as an artist.
