I am interested in how dimensionality can expand the planar space that paintings traditionally occupy. Fascinated by sculpture and the physical presence that they occupy in the world - but opposed to the installation associated with such structures - I seek to negotiate a sculptural place on the wall for paintings.
In the creation of my work, I find it important to be the one manufacturing the dimensionality featured in the work (transforming a two-dimensional canvas, panel, etc. into three dimensions through means such as paper mâché or string, as opposed to starting from a found or pre-manufactured surface.)
With all this being said about sculpture, I identify my works as paintings, albeit paintings approaching the realm of sculpture.
