There is something about people that draws me in. Maybe it’s the way that people wear their experiences on their bodies. Maybe it’s the way that unspoken stories can fill up rooms. Or maybe it’s the way that you can know someone, grow up with someone, and there’s still a wealth of words and emotions that they themselves may not even be aware of.

My installation focuses on interpretation, reflection and empathy. All of my paintings incorporate hidden messages and details particular to the people I portray. I have a close relationship with all of my subjects, which is very important to me. Through my portrayals of friends and family, I try to paint a story that my subjects would understand, and simultaneously invite my audience to attempt to understand that story, or at the very least to empathize. The goal is not to paint a clear picture, but one that my audience can empathize with.
